I went to a jam session the other day of a mix of instruments that included an accordion, a flute, a guitar and 15 ukuleles.
You would expect an odd rendering of noise with such a conglomeration but no, the result was pleasant, even sweet. We all sang along, with me supplying the descant, and in between songs jokes were told. I told two, shaggy dog stories that brought hearty laughter. Most gratifying.
When the session ended, one of the ukulele players came up to me, thrust her instrument in my hands and told me I should take up playing it. She showed me some fingering chords, taking my fingers and placing them on the strings, and said they had an extra instrument I could use. I said I would think about it.
